Buc-ee’s, the iconic travel center known for its pristine restrooms, wide array of food options, and Texas hospitality, is officially expanding its footprint to Amarillo, Texas. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Buc-ee’s Amarillo travel center is set to take place on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. CDT. Local leaders and Buc-ee’s representatives will gather to celebrate the commencement of this highly anticipated project.

The new Buc-ee’s Amarillo, strategically located at 9900 East Interstate 40, promises to be a significant travel stop. Spanning a massive 74,000 square feet, the travel center will feature 108 fueling positions for gasoline vehicles and a forward-thinking provision of 24 EV charging stations. This reflects Buc-ee’s commitment to serving the evolving needs of travelers.

Inside, visitors can expect the classic Buc-ee’s experience. The Amarillo location will offer a wide selection of Buc-ee’s signature food items, including Texas barbeque, freshly made fudge, traditional kolaches, the famous Beaver Nuggets, a variety of jerky, and delicious pastries. Beyond food, the travel center will stock thousands of snack, meal, and drink choices, ensuring travelers are well-supplied for their journeys. The groundbreaking ceremony will be attended by prominent Amarillo figures, including Mayor Cole Stanley, City Council members Josh Craft, Don Tipps, Tom Scherlen, Les Simpson, and former Mayor Ginger Nelson, highlighting the local support and excitement for Buc-ee’s arrival.

Stan Beard of Buc-ee’s emphasized the strategic importance of Amarillo for this new travel center. “Amarillo is the midpoint between Chicago and Los Angeles on the fabled Route 66,” Beard stated. “I can’t think of a better place to put a Buc-ee’s.” This location is poised to serve a high volume of cross-country travelers.

Buc-ee’s, founded in Texas in 1982, currently operates 46 stores, primarily in Texas and across the South. Since 2019, the company has been expanding into other states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The Amarillo location marks a westward expansion, with other groundbreakings already underway in Colorado and Missouri. Other current Buc-ee’s construction projects include sites in Springfield, MO; Hillsboro, TX; Harrison County, MS; Smiths Grove, KY; and Johnstown, CO.

The Buc-ee’s Amarillo project is expected to create at least 200 full-time jobs in the area. These positions will offer competitive starting pay above minimum wage, comprehensive benefits, a 6% matching 401k plan, and three weeks of paid vacation, making Buc-ee’s a significant employer in the region.
