Rumpl NanoLoft Travel Blanket: Your Go-To Adventure Companion

If you find it hard to believe, the concept for Rumpl actually sparked from an RV stuck in freezing conditions. The founders realized the effectiveness of performance fabrics used in outdoor gear and started incorporating them into blankets. This resulted in blankets warm enough for chilly weather and tough enough for outdoor adventures.

The NanoLoft Travel Blanket is just one of Rumpl’s innovative offerings. It’s designed to be lightweight, easily packable, and perfectly sized for personal, everyday use. Plus, it’s made with recycled materials, making it an eco-conscious choice.

After putting it to the test for two weeks, we’re excited to share our thoughts on why this blanket might just become your new favorite travel essential. Let’s dive into our Rumpl NanoLoft Travel Blanket review!

Materials and Design

True to its name, the Rumpl NanoLoft Travel Blanket feels right at home whether you’re exploring open landscapes, relaxing at campsites, or simply unwinding at home. Currently, the NanoLoft Travel Blanket comes in several colors, including Deepwater (a classic navy blue), Pyro Tri-Fade (a gradient colorway), and Black. We tested the Deepwater version and appreciated the subtle red stitching that adds a touch of visual appeal.

Rumpl’s brand name is displayed in red on the carrying case and discreetly in white on a small loop on the blanket itself. These logos are subtle and unobtrusive. Like most blankets, it includes a larger white tag with legally required information, which can be easily removed after purchase.

Material quality is crucial for any blanket, and the Rumpl Travel Blanket is constructed from recycled 30D ripstop polyester with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish. This combination ensures resistance to tears, abrasions, and moisture. However, we did notice a few loose threads on the stitching after a couple of weeks of use, which is something to keep an eye on for long-term durability.

The blanket utilizes NanoLoft® insulation, a synthetic down alternative made from Nanometer high-elastic cloth with a soft nap, as described by Rumpl. We found this insulation to be impressively warm during chilly evenings outdoors, even after the campfire died down.

Features and Practicality

The Rumpl NanoLoft Travel Blanket packs into a separate, water-resistant stuff sack. While we appreciate the separate case, we would have preferred a self-packing design like the Matador Pocket Blanket 2.0. Compressing the blanket tightly enough to fit back into the case can be a bit challenging, and we even misplaced the case once.

Despite this, the stuff sack makes it convenient to toss the blanket into a bag for on-the-go use. The buckle on the case top also functions as a handy grab handle for quick carries, especially since the case material can be a bit slippery.

As we mentioned in our packable jackets guide, it’s best to store compressible gear like this blanket uncompressed whenever possible. This helps maintain the fabric and insulation’s loft and effectiveness over time.

While packing it away requires a bit of effort, unfolding the Rumpl travel blanket is quick and easy. Its 38 x 52-inch size is ideal for individual use. If you need a larger blanket for sharing or want more vibrant color options, the Rumpl Original Puffy Recycled Blanket is worth considering. The Original Puffy offers even more padding for extra warmth in very cold conditions, although it is bulkier when packed.

The larger Rumpl blanket includes corner loops for staking it down in windy conditions. The travel size NanoLoft blanket doesn’t have this feature, so it’s wise to weigh it down with a bag during breezy picnics to prevent it from blowing away.

Perhaps a standout feature of the Rumpl NanoLoft Travel Blanket is its Cape Clip®. Located in one corner is a buckle, and in an adjacent corner, a loop with the Rumpl logo. By draping the blanket over your shoulders, threading the buckle through the loop, and clipping it, you instantly transform the blanket into a hands-free cape.

Now you’re not just a regular blanket user, you’re the Blanket Bandit, ready to fend off the chill! Okay, maybe not quite, but you do get a warm, hands-free experience, perfect for enjoying a beverage and relaxing outdoors. And if you’re worried about your drink getting cold, Rumpl even has a blanket for your beer!

The Rumpl NanoLoft Travel Blanket is a versatile companion for various indoor and outdoor activities, from picnics and hikes to building forts at home. It also makes a thoughtful and practical gift for road trip enthusiasts or eco-conscious friends and family.
