When exploring new destinations, keeping your valuables secure is a top priority. Like many travelers, during a recent trip, I experimented with different methods to carry essential items such as my passport, cards, and cash safely. This included using a crossbody purse for daily essentials and a phone lanyard for easy access to my mobile. For discreetly carrying my passport and extra cards, I tried a Stashbandz, which worked well when worn under clothing, especially with pocket-less leggings for activities like exercise or gardening.
Initially, the Stashbandz was my go-to for situations like navigating London’s public transport and visiting busy areas. However, I discovered an even more convenient solution with a sleeveless travel shirt from Costco/Eddie Bauer, which features a small, hidden zippered pocket. This pocket was perfect for holding my passport and cards, eliminating the need for the Stashbandz on many occasions. This shirt proved to be so useful that I ordered two more for future trips.
My husband, on the other hand, opted for a neck money pocket for his valuables. We also carried a traditional money belt, a type we’ve used in the past. Reflecting on our experiences, particularly the ease of using hidden pockets and alternative solutions, it made us reconsider the necessity of traditional money belts. While neck wallets and hidden pockets offer accessible security, the question arises: are Travel Belts, specifically money belts, becoming outdated for modern travel, or do they still hold a place in securing your belongings? Exploring these different options helps in making informed decisions about travel security, ensuring peace of mind while on the go.
