Travelers Taproom, a beloved local watering hole situated conveniently between Cherrydale and Travelers Rest, has announced it is seeking a new investor. The property, located on Poinsett Highway, is officially listed for sale at $950,000 by Watershed GVL, a commercial real estate agency. However, contrary to potential rumors, Travelers Taproom is not closing its doors.
According to co-owner Jerry Davis, the decision to list the property is a strategic move to attract a partner who can contribute to the taproom’s future development. “That building has a ton of potential for some for other things, tons of room for a kitchen,” Davis explained. The current owners envision improvements such as expanded parking and a more comprehensive food service offering. Bringing in an investor with stronger financial resources would be instrumental in realizing these ambitions.
Davis and his co-owner, Steve Roe, consider themselves “regular Joes” who manage the Travelers Taproom alongside their full-time careers. They believe that with the right partner, the taproom can truly maximize its potential as a thriving community hub. Travelers Taproom is more than just a bar; it’s conceived as a vital “third space” for locals to connect and unwind. The search for an investor is aimed at enhancing this role and ensuring its longevity.
Adding to the challenges faced by local businesses, Travelers Taproom recently experienced a significant 110% increase in their liquor liability insurance premium. This issue, as Davis points out, is not unique to them and has contributed to the closure of several businesses in the area. Davis expressed understanding for those who have faced even more drastic insurance cost increases, referencing the broader issue impacting the hospitality sector.
Despite these hurdles, Davis remains firmly optimistic about the future of Travelers Taproom. “Oh, we’re nothing but fight,” Davis asserted. “We don’t give up. Not around here. We’ll do whatever we got to do.” This resilience underscores their commitment to the Travelers Taproom and its role in the community.
