Travelers Tower Hartford to Shine Red for Inaugural Travelers Championship

HARTFORD, Conn. – The iconic Travelers Tower in Hartford’s skyline will be illuminated in red tomorrow night, marking the commencement of the first-ever Travelers Championship. This vibrant display from the Travelers Tower Hartford signifies the official start of a new chapter for Connecticut’s prestigious PGA TOUR event.

Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for Travelers, emphasized the significance of the moment. “Monday represents the dawn of a new era for Connecticut’s PGA TOUR tournament,” he stated. “Our team has dedicated considerable effort to assemble an exceptional field of players at TPC River Highlands, and we eagerly anticipate the week’s festivities. All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Greater Hartford Jaycees and The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.”

Travelers became the title sponsor of Connecticut’s PGA TOUR event in April 2006, committing for four years. Since then, continuous improvements have been implemented to enhance the tournament experience for fans, players, and their families. This year’s upgrades include the initiation of construction for a state-of-the-art practice facility, an increased tournament purse exceeding $6 million with a winner’s share of $1.08 million, enhanced corporate hospitality facilities, and a new fan-focused hospitality area known as The Pavilion.

The Travelers Championship is deeply committed to philanthropy, with all proceeds benefiting two noteworthy organizations: the Greater Hartford Jaycees, a dedicated group of young professionals serving the Greater Hartford community, and The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, founded by Paul Newman, which provides support to children with serious illnesses and their families.

The decision to light the Travelers Tower Hartford in a special color is a rare occurrence. Prior to this, the Travelers Tower has only been specially lit on two occasions. Following the September 11, 2001 tragedies, the tower displayed red, white, and blue. In May 2004, blue and white lights honored the University of Connecticut men’s and women’s basketball teams’ national championships. This red illumination for the Travelers Championship adds to the tower’s history of marking significant events.

The 2007 Travelers Championship will take place from June 18 – 24 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. For ticket purchases and further details, please visit www.travelerschampionship.com.
