Public transportation can be a fantastic way to explore your community, but it can feel daunting for some. The Rogue Valley Transit District (RVTD) understands this and has launched the Guy Wallman Mobility Training Center to make bus travel accessible and stress-free for everyone. Named in honor of Guy Wallman, a beloved RVTD coach operator, this center embodies his dedication to community service by empowering individuals to confidently navigate public transit.
Located in Medford, Oregon, at the renovated “Greyhound building,” the center provides a realistic practice environment. It features a retired RVTD bus, complete with all the amenities of an active service vehicle. Here, both new and experienced riders can learn essential travel skills at their own pace. From understanding fare payment and locating seats to requesting stops and utilizing wheelchair ramps, the center covers all aspects of bus travel.
To further enhance the learning experience, the Guy Wallman Travel Training Center includes:
- A true-to-life bus shelter with a Simme seat, simulating a real waiting area.
- An interactive TV screen for practicing real-time trip planning and route navigation, making wallman travel planning simpler.
- A bike rack for hands-on practice in loading and unloading bicycles, encouraging multi-modal travel.
Whether you’re an individual looking to gain confidence in using public transit or an organization seeking travel training for your group, the Guy Wallman Travel Training Center is an invaluable resource.
