Planning a trip to Texas and looking for the perfect destination? Look no further than Austin, a vibrant and welcoming city that offers a taste of everything special about the Lone Star State. For our group of eight longtime friends scattered across the US, Austin proved to be the ideal meeting point for our annual long-weekend getaway, and it might just be perfect for your next adventure too.
Austin immediately charmed us with its progressive and artistic spirit. The city boasts a relaxed atmosphere, with numerous spots offering a casual beer garden vibe, and an incredible amount of live music venues that won’t break the bank. Visiting in May meant we enjoyed perfect weather, and the food scene was simply outstanding. Even in a state celebrated for its BBQ, vegetarians in our group were delighted by the abundant and delicious options available.
Inspired by online resources and local guides, we crafted a 3-day itinerary that allowed us to experience the best of Austin. Our Airbnb in the Northloop neighborhood provided a comfortable base, and while perhaps not the most bustling area, its central location meant everywhere we wanted to visit was within a short 15-minute drive. For future trips, we’re already eyeing the trendy East Austin area, closer to the downtown core. While we rented a car, getting around Austin is also easily manageable with ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft. Although some areas, like South Congress, are pedestrian-friendly for shopping, having wheels is definitely recommended to explore the city’s diverse neighborhoods and attractions which are spread out.
