Laurent Ferrier celebrates its 15th anniversary by revisiting a beloved classic: the Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue. This second edition of the iconic traveller’s watch elevates the art of miniature painting, presenting a world map cloaked in deep, opaque blue enamel. Intense specks of enamelled gold illuminate the continents, creating a captivating visual depth that speaks to the sophisticated globetrotter.
This timepiece is more than just a watch; it’s a companion for the modern traveller. The dial immediately captures attention with its spherical centre crafted from 18k 210 Pd white gold. The blue champlevé enamel technique brings the world to life, while a slate grey circular satin-brushed hour ring provides a subtle contrast and enhances readability. Drop-shaped indexes in 18k white gold 210Pd mark the hours, complemented by elegant Assegai-shaped hour and minute hands, also in 18k white gold 210Pd. Crucially for the traveller, the dial features a dual time-zone aperture. Located at 3 o’clock, the date is displayed, while 9 o’clock reveals the home time, ensuring seamless timekeeping across borders.
Encasing this exquisite dial is a 41mm diameter case crafted from 18k 210 Pd white gold. With a thickness of 12.64 mm, it sits comfortably on the wrist, a testament to thoughtful design for the travelling wearer. While refined, it maintains practicality with a 30m water resistance, suitable for everyday wear in various travel environments.
The heart of the Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue is the Calibre LF230.02, a self-winding movement of exceptional quality. Designed for precision and reliability, essential attributes for any traveller, it features an off-centred micro-rotor in 18k solid gold. This innovative micro-rotor, with pawl-fitted unidirectional winding and a “silent block” shock-absorbing system, ensures efficient and discreet operation. The movement boasts a natural escapement with double direct-impulse directly on the balance, along with a silicon pallet-lever and escape-wheels made with LIGA technology. For the international traveller, adjusting time zones is effortless thanks to correctors via the crown for winding and time-setting, and two push-buttons (+/-) on the left side of the case. These buttons, positioned at 10 and 8 o’clock, allow for quick hour adjustments with automatic date correction – a particularly useful feature when crossing time zones. The movement comprises 288 components and 44 jewels, operating at 21,600 vph (3Hz) and providing a 72-hour power reserve, ensuring reliable performance throughout long journeys.
Completing the watch is a deep grey Nubuck leather strap with Alcantara lining, offering both comfort and sophistication for the discerning traveller. It is secured with a pin buckle in 18k 210 Pd white gold, echoing the case material and ensuring a cohesive luxurious feel.
The Laurent Ferrier Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue is more than a luxury item; it is a meticulously crafted instrument designed for those who traverse the globe. Its dual time-zone function, robust movement, and exquisite design make it an ideal companion for every journey, embodying both functionality and elegance for the modern traveller.
